The Knoxville News-Sentinel, Monday 13 December 1965:
A clean-cut, quiet, like-able young man who was studying for the ministry, following in his father’s footsteps when he joined the U.S. Marines, is a Vietnam casualty. Acie David Hall, 23, who was with the Second Battalion of the First Marines, was killed in action Friday by a mortar shell, the family has been notified. Before entering the Marines, Hall was a student at a theological school in Wichita, Kansas. He is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Pallis T. Hall of Rt. 2, Lake City, and was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church.
My name is Bill Cowell USMC. I served with Acie David Hall kia Dec 10,1965 Vietnam. I am sorry for not writing sooner I did not have Hall’s full name untill today. We went in country and landed in the wrong LZ. I was lying next to Hall when he was killed. 14 were killed that morning. Only me and Paul Willard got out both wounded. Write if you wish.
