Adrian Ora Jett was inducted into the Army at Knoxville on September 4, 1918, and assigned to Camp Wadsworth at Spartanburg, SC, for his military training. His organization was Company I, 57th Pioneer Infantry.

Adrian departed from Hoboken, New Jersey on September 29, 1918, on the USS Leviathan. The ship faced an outbreak of the Spanish Flu, approximately 90 men died on the voyage, and around 2,000 men had to be treated upon their arrival in Brest. About two weeks after his arrival, Adrian died in a hospital in France of pneumonia caused by the influenza.

After the war, Private Jett was repatriated from France back to his hometown and buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in South Knoxville.
