Private First Class Carl A. Akins was the son of Andrew and Bertha Garrett Akins. Siblings were Edd Steelman, Jesse Steelman, James, Hobert, Charles, Opal, Margaret, and Thelma. At the time of his death, the 32nd Division was involved in the leap frog operation along the coast of New Guinea against the Japanese.
