Sergeant First Class Clifton Tanksley was born on September 3, 1931, and was originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was the son of Joe and Ethel Tanksley. He served his country in the Korean War. Later he served in the Vietnam War in the United States Army as an armor crewman in Adv. Team 21, HQ, MACV Advisors, MACV. He began his service in Vietnam on March 22, 1966, and later extended his tour to serve as an advisor with the 3rd ARVN Cavalry. On December 7, 1967, he was killed by a sniper in Binh Dinh province, South Vietnam; he was 36 years old at the time of his death. SFC Tanksley is memorialized on Panel 31E, Line 61.
