Clyde Ray Begley was born on 15 July 1924 in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was the son of Dorsey Begley and Susanna “Sue” Cavin.

Clyde Begley was born 15 July 1924. Clyde was 6 feet tall and weighed 140 pounds when he completed his draft registration card. He left Kingsport on 17 March 1944, to report for military service in the US Army when he was 19 years old with 64 other inductees. The group was transported to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. After training Clyde was sent to Europe where he was a Private First Class in the 310 Infantry, 78 Infantry Division.
Germany surrendered 7 May 1945 at General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s headquarters in Reime, France. Clyde was killed 9 June 1945, a month and two days after the war had ended by as German sniper. He would have been 21 years old the following month.

Funeral services for Clyde R. Begley, 21, will be held Sunday at Cloudsbend Church with burial in the church cemetery. The body arrived in Kingsport and was taken to Hamlett-Dodson Funeral Home. The body was to be taken later ot the home in Cloudsbend. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Doris Begley, CB Route; a brother, George Opie Begley; two sister, Mrs. Goldie Adams, Miss Lola Adams, of Baileyton; his grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Calvin, Rogersville, Route.
