Donald Hayes Greene was the son of Roy Lee Green and Martha E Foster of 4214 St, Elmo Avenue, Chattanooga.
He served on the U.S.S. PCE-R 848. He was killed in action on Leyte Island, Philippine Island. He was initially buried at Red Beach, Leyte, Philippines.

Killed in line of duty were Donald H. Green of the navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Green, 4214 St. Elmo Avenue, and his uncle, Cpl. Edward E. Foster, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Foster, Sewanee, and husband of Mrs. Virginia Price Foster of Sewanee. Green was killed in line of duty on Oct. 28, the Navy Department informed his parents. He entered the navy in 1940, and served nearly four years overseas. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Miss Patty R. Green, Chattanooga; Mrs. Rufus Timbs, Elgin Field, Ill., and one brother, Roy L. Green Jr., also of the navy.
