Edward Gilbert Taliaferro  was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to James Hubert Taliaferro and Ida Estella Gilbert. Brother of James Hibert Taliaferro.  Enlisted 23 March 1944 – Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Pfc. Gilbert Taliaferro was killed in action a week before his brother was listed as missing. Pfc. Hubert Taliaferro was taken prisoner on Dec. 16 during the German offensive in Belgium.

Edward Taliaferro was initially buried at Hochfelden Cemetery at Hochfelden, France and reburied at Lorraine American Cemetery, St-Avold, France, F, 5, 17.

A graduate of McCallie School, Pfc. Was killed while serving with a Seventh Army unit in Southern France, the War Department notified his parents, He had been previously listed missing in action. Pfc. Taliaferro was captain of the school band and editor of the student paper at McCallie School. He entered the army while a medical student at Davidson College, Davidson, N.C., and was one of three Chattanoogans who went directly overseas upon completion of basic training. His brother, Hubert Taliaferro Jr., is now serving with an army unit in northern France.
