Eugene Arthur Laymance was the son of Gilbert Walter Laymance and Rachel Alice Jones. Sgt Laymance enlisted on 14 October 1942 at Georgia. He served with Company A, 329th Infantry. He Died of wounds in France. He is buried in Tennessee.

On Oct. 4, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert A. Laymance, of Lancing received word from the War Department that their son, Sgt. Eugene Laymance, had died of wounds received in France in July. The day before receiving this news, they picked up The News-Sentinel and on page 14 found  a picture of their wounded son being helped ashore in France. They have two other sons in service, Cpl. Dennis W. Laymance, a veteran of the North African and Sicilian campaign, who has been reported missing in France since July 21, and Sgt. Ken Laymance now on his way overseas. The fourth brother, Ray, has just registered and is working at Clinton until he is called.
