George Dewey Plemons was born 14 July 1914. He was the son of Miljard Crawford Plemens and Mary Elizabeth Loving. Husband of Katherine Kirk and father of Janice and Richard (Dick) Plemons.

George Plemons resided at Buncombe, North Carolina and entered the service on 30 July 1942 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. He probably was lost in the sinking of the S.S. Dorchester. The Dorchester was torpedoed by German U-boat U-223 during the early morning hours of February 3, 1943.

He is memorialized at East Coast Memorial, New York, NY.

Mrs.Katherine Plemons, Lenoir City, has been notified officially by the War Department that her husband, Pvt. George Plemons, was killed in action in the North Atlantic Feb. 3, 1943. He previously was reported missing. Pvt. Plemons had been in the Army Air Corps since July, 1942. In addition to his wife, he leaves children, Janice, 5, and Dewey, 3. His mother, Mrs. Mary Plemons, of Neubert, Tenn., five sisters and a brother, Cpl. John Plemons, Stationed at Camp White, Oregon.
