Lt. Hirschel L. Gutman, 28, of Brookline, first pilot of a Liberator with the 8th Air Force based in England, and a veteran of 26 combat missions over Europe, was killed in action April 20, according to word from the War Department received by his mother, Mrs. Belle Rice Gutman, 673 Boylston st. Brookline. Lt. Gutman, who held the Air Medal and had been awarded four Oak Leaf Clusters, also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Arnold H. Adler, and Mrs. Paul Simons, Both of Brookline. His father, Joseph, died in April.
