On 23 June 1945 he was a passenger on the US Army Douglas C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft #43-16195 during a routine ferry flight. They had departed from Myitkyina North Airfield in Burma, present day Myanmar. Their destination was Ledo Airfield in India. It was reported that they crashed into the side of a Mountain in the Shin Bway Yang region of Burma. There were no survivors.

He was returned from overseas in 1950 and is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Saint Louis, Missouri. He is buried in the same grave with;
