Herman Montgomery Hicks was born at Maryville, Tennessee, the son of James “Jim” Henry Hicks and Clemmie S. Gentry.

He served with 157th Infantry Regiment, Company C and died in Algeria.

Pvt. Herman M. Hicks, age 26, was killed in Algeria, Feb. 21, 1944 while serving with the Fifth Infantry Division. Survivors; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim H. Hicks, Maryville; one brother, Roy Hicks; one sister, Mrs. Helen Webb; one half-brother, Charles James; three half-sisters, Mrs. Willard Collins, Mrs Edna Parrott, Miss Wanda Sue Hicks, all of Maryville.
