Homer Elwood Kirkland was the son of Charlie Johnson Kirkland and Bessie Caroline Hooker. He entered the Army in March, 1941 and received his training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. He had been overseas since February and was killed in action in France. Pfc Kirkland is buried at Mt. Zion Bapt. Cem., Loudon Co., Tn
