Hugh Victor Lipps was the son of John M. Lipps and Alice “Lizzie” Bales.
Pfc. Hugh V. Lipps served with Company G, 338th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division. He was killed in action in Italy.

The body of Pfc. Hugh V. Lipps, son of Mrs. Alice Lipps of Riceville and the late John M. Lipps, arrived in Athens from the Atlanta distribution center, accompanied by a military escort. Funeral services will be held at the Sanford Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Riceville Cemetery, with the national guard of Etowah in charge of the military services.
Pfc. Lipps was killed in action Sept. 17, 1944. He was with the 338th Infantry, 85th Division. He had been in service 28 months and was 35 years of age at the time of his death. He was educated in the schools of McMinn County and was a member of the Sanford Baptist Church. Surviving, besides his mother are two sisters, Mrs. Henry Wright of Riceville, Mrs. Gid Myers of Calhoun; three brothers, Tom Lipps of Spruce Pine, N.C.; Joe Lipps of Riceville and Charles Lipps of Knoxville.
