PFC Thomas was killed in action in France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Among the sixty-six Alabama dead arriving in New York last Saturday from Europe, having been killed in action in that area, was one from Chilton county – Pfc. Isaac A. Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Thomas of Clanton, Route 1. Isaac Thomas left for service September 25, 1942, going to Camp Sam Houston, Texas. He went from there to Camp McCoy, Wisc., where he spent the rest of his time training. He had one twelve-day furlough home in April, 1943, following which he was sent to Northern Ireland. He was killed somewhere in France July 12, 1944, and was buried in a U.S. military cemetery. When he was home on furlough he told his folks he might never come back home alive, but that he would not be taken prisoner. He was buried at St. Laurent, France.
