PFC James F. Turner Jr., 27, of Niota, Tenn.; was killed in action in France Aug. 27, 1944. He was in the 79th Division with the 113th Infantry. Survivors; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Turner; four brothers, Eugene, Billie, John and Ross; two sisters, Sue and Martha Turner all of Niota, Tenn.
Daily Post-Athenian, September 25, 1944
Mr. and Mrs. Frazier Turner received a message from the War Department this morning informing them that their son, Pfc. James Turner, 27, was killed in action in France on August 27. Pfc. Turner had twice previously been reported missing. After the first message, received in July, the Turners received several letters from their son saying that he was well. The second message of his being missing came Friday and was followed by the message of his death. James had been in service over two years and had been in foreign service approximately seven months. He was with the Infantry division of the U.S. Army. He attended the schools in Niota, and Tennessee Military Institute in Sweetwater. Survivors are his parents; two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Sue Turner, and Martha Lou Turner of Niota; four brothers, Pfc. Bill Turner, with the Army stationed at Camp Breckinridge, Ky., Pfc. Eugene Turner with the U.S. Army in France; John and Luther Ross Turner of Niota.
