Joseph “Joe” Francis Shreve was born 30 April 1909, Florida, the son of Francis C. Shreve and Malinda Ann Jernigan. He had several half-brothers and sisters from his mother’s first marriage.

Private Joe F. Shreve, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Shreve of Panama City, Fla., was killed in action August 17,according to word received from the War Department. Pvt. Shreve had been in the service eight months, was overseas two months. His wife, Mrs. Louise Shreve, makes her home in Lakeland, Fla., where they expected to settle after the war. Before entering the service Pvt. Shreve was superintendent of manufacturing in a lumber mill in Spring City, Tenn. Pvt. And Mrs. Shreve were formerly of Headland. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Shreve, his mother, Mrs. M.A. Shreve, one sister, Mrs. J.P. Riley, two brothers, Dan Merchant, Hapeville, Ala., Charles Merchant, Eufaula.
