Mrs. Mildred P. Sharp, 812 Woodward Street, Chattanooga, received the Silver Star Medal for her husband, the late S/Sgt John E. Sharp. The citation for Sgt. Sharp, an infantryman, stated that while dismounting from tanks which they were riding, one of the men fell and broke his leg and lay helpless in the center of a road continually swept by enemy fire. “Sgt. Sharp, squad leader,” the citation continued, “with complete disregard for personal safety, ran out into the road and dragged the injured soldier to cover in a ditch.
