Pfc. Johnny Liles, 23, has been killed in action in the Palau Islands, according to a message from the War Department received Sunday by his wife, Mrs. Ruth French Liles, Athens, Route 2. The message stated that Pfc. Liles died in action on September 19, and that a letter would follow. He was in the 81st Wildcat Division of the Infantry and had been in service 28 months, three of which had been overseas. Survivors include his wife; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Liles, Athens, Route 2; two sisters, Mrs. Glenn Richey, Gainsville, Texas and Juanita Liles, Route 2, Athens; two brothers, Charley, Athens, Route 2 and James, U.S. Army Engineers Bn., presumably en route overseas.
