Oscar Jones was born  on 4 October 1913, only son of Lester Apaul Jones and Margaret  Janie Colston. He resided at Long Island, Jackson, Alabama at the time of his enlistment.

The body of Pfc. Oscar Jones who was killed in action in France July 12, 1944, arrived in Chattanooga yesterday. Jones is survived by his mother, Mrs. Margaret Janes Jones, 3107 North Hawthorne Street; grandmothers, Mrs. Emma Colston and Mrs. Sallie Jones; five aunts and five uncles. He entered the army in November, 1942, and went overseas as a member of Company I, 115th Infantry, in May, 1944. Funeral services will be held at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Jasper, Tenn. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
