Paul Henry Hutsell was born on 25 March 1915 in Athens, Tennessee. He was the son of Henry Clay Hutsell and Oma Simpson. He attended McMinn County High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College .

Paul H. Hutsell, 28, AAF flight pilot officer, was killed in a plane crash in China Oct. 15, his mother, Mrs. John B. Kennedy of Athens, has been notified by the War Department. He was a stepson of John K. Kennedy, McMinn County Trustee. Flight Officer Hutsell volunteered in 1940. He was first with the Royal Canadian Air Force, but was transferred later to the U.S. Air Force. While with the RCAF he was stationed in England and was on many missions for which he received decorations. He was a graduate of McMinn County High and Tennessee Wesleyan College, where he was a star football player. He attended U-T. Kendall Hutsell of Athens is a brother.
