William Pitts was born 18 January 1923 to William M. Pitts and Sue M. Berry. He died on 20 May 1945 while in service with the USNR. He is buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee.

S1C William Pitts, USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Pitts, 806 Fairview Avenue, died May 20 of pneumonia while en route overseas, the Navy Department informed his parents yesterday. He entered the service in January, 1944. He is survived by four sisters, Hattie Belle Pitts, Thelma Terry, Ernestine Terry, Margaret Waters; five uncles and grandmothers, Mrs. Laura Berry and Mrs. Mollie Pitts.
