Private First Class Reece Hubert Baker was born 13 September 1921 in Sevierville, Tennessee. He was the son of Hubert Turner Ottis Baker and Stella Esther Rogers. Siblings of Beecher Baker, who was drafted into the U.S. Army 14 October 1941, include Buford Baker, Kathryn King, and Opal Johnson.
Baker was killed in action during the invasion of Normandy on 7 June 1944. He is buried at Zion Hill Cemetery, Sevier County, Tennessee.
The Knoxville Journal, 2 August 1944:
Pfc. Reece H. Baker, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ottis Baker, Route 1, Boyd’s Creek, was killed in action in France, June 17, it was reported yesterday. Private Baker entered the Army July 30, 1942, and had been overseas 18 months. He was in the infantry. He is survived by his parents, two sisters, Katherine and Opal Baker; two brothers, Cpl. Beecher Baker, of Camp Davis, N.C., and Buford Baker, of Boyd’s Creek.
