Roy Elmer Vittatoe was born 1 May 1920 to John Washington Vittatoe and Sallie Matilda Justice.
On 2 October 1938 he married Audrey Adkisson at Coalfield, Morgan County, TN. Theye were the parents of a daughter, Christine Mae Vittatoe.
Pfc. Vittatoe enlisted 25 Jul 1944 at Camp Forrest, Tennessee. He served in the 381st Infantry Regiment, 96th Infantry Division.
He was initially buried at Okinawa Island Cemetery, Ryukyu Retto
