Thomas (Tommy) Lee Turner was the son of George Martin Turner and Edna Mae Hughes.

Officially declared dead on 19 August 1944
Memorialized at the Honolulu, HI Memorial; he also has a memorial stone in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Pomona (Cumberland County), TN.
Tommy Turner was aboard the U.S.S. Abner Reed and was killed August 18, 1943 when the ship hit a mine in the Bering Sea off the Aleutian Islands.

Pomona community was shocked and grieved when Mr. and Mrs. George Turner received word from the Navy Department that their son, Tommie Lee was “missing in action”. The message was received by Mr. and Mrs. Turner on Saturday, August 28. Tommie enlisted in the Navy in January, 1943. He was known and love by all with whom he came in contact. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the Turner family, who, no doubt, retain hopes of hearing that their son of safe. The Turners have another son, Fay, who is also in the Navy, having enlisted three years ago, and is now on active duty in the Pacific. At home are a son, Lin, age 16, and a daughter, Margie, age 13.
