Vernon Ivey was born 19 March 1921. The son of Mack Ivey and Liza Williamson. He was married to Ruby Woodson. He had two other brothers in the service, Private James Ivey and Private Clyde Ivey.

PFC Ivey was killed in the fight to take the city of Grosshau, Germany on 27 November 1944.
