Von Charles Underwood was born in 1897 in Kodak, Tennessee to Ephriam Sneed Underwood and Susan Cate.

Cpl Underwood died in service in line of duty and was initially buried at the American Cemetery Coblenz in Germany. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Section EUR, Site 377.

Corp. Underwood Dies.
Corporal Von C. Underwood, son of E.S. Underwood, of Kodak, Sevier County, died October 9, in an army camp in France. News of the death was received Thursday by his father.
The young man was a member of Company M, 57th Pioneer Regiment. He left Knoxville September 3 for Camp Wadsworth, Spartanburg, South Carolina. The official notice of the death of Corporal Underwood said his death resulted from illness caused by an attack of Pneumonia.
